As I sit here in my company yard in Irving Texas, I ponder things to write about. I spent my morning being productive and giving road tests to company new comers while my truck was in the shop for day number 4. I sit here and wonder why it's taking so long to fix a problem that I could literally do in 5 minutes with a screwdriver. Then I take a look at my experience this morning. I had to fail one new comer on his backing test. I had no choice. I had to suggest that he be put with a trainer for a week or two and the company decided to send him packing. After my next test period I went in to use the restroom and who should corner me... Mr. Failure. He then proceeded to "chew" me out accusing me of mistreating him because of his race. Go figure. His ineptness translates into me being racist. I would say that I was offended that he accused me of being racist, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am not.
The fact of the matter is that no body seems to be willing to admit their own deficiencies. When they can't measure up to the requirements, they want to blame somebody other than themselves. Doesn't matter if it's the mechanic, the cashier, the schoolteacher, or even the President. They all want to blame their mistakes on someone else. Where does the buck stop? Why, if you can't fix a problem, would you blame somebody else? I'm sure that I've done it as well, and it's something that I'm going to have to watch out for in the future. We all need to make sure that we can handle taking the blame on ourselves. We are after all our biggest enemy.
